| Ahn, Jong Yuen began as a painter,
and has also done much work in sculptor where she has explored
the myriad processes and variations of three-dimensional art
in wood, crystal, alluminum and now, stainless steel black and
colored mirrors.
She was born in Mil-Yang, South Korea, in 1952, did fine
art undergraduate studies at Dong-A University, and completed
her Masters of Fine Art at the School of Visual Arts in New
York in 1992. She has had more than 10 solo exhibitions in
leading Korean galleries, and has participated in numerous
group exhibitions in New York, Japan, China, and Korea.
For the last 15 years she has explored experimental forms
with three dimensional installation pieces. The pervading
theme with most of this work has been Water and Light: flowing
water, still water, water permeated by light, water refelected
by light. She developed her "Sound of Light" series
with indoor and outdoor installations in Korea at places like
Technomart 21, the National Cancer Centre, the Samsung Insurance
Building, and the Dr. Suh, Jae-Pil Memorial Park, Bosung,
Jeon-Nam, etc..
She has recently begun working in two dimensional sculptor
with her "Blank of Light" series which she introduced
with her October, 1994, solo exhibit in Seoul, Korea. Her
technique involves "pecking" the stainless steel
black and color mirror surfaces with a hand size burr drill
utilizing various bits to achieve her desired results.
